Press Release Date

Bright Light Systems (BLS), the leading manufacturer of energy-efficient LED luminaires and wireless lighting controls for marine port terminals, will supply high-mast LED lighting along with the Bright Light Management System (BLMS) software to Nassau Container Port. The container terminal is located on Arawak Cay, just two miles west of Downtown Nassau at the mouth of Nassau Harbor. The Port is strategically located to handle shipping of cargo to and from the Caribbean and offers facilities for both domestic and international bulk, break bulk, container and project cargo customers.

"We selected Bright Light Systems for their proven lighting and controls software that gives us a whole new way of thinking about our night time operations with the flexibility to dim certain areas of the terminal when there are no operations,” said Richard McCombe, Head of Operations, Arawak Port Development. “This unique level of control over our terminal lighting will deliver substantial cost savings that supports our sustainability commitment to The Bahamas and will free up capital for other necessary port infrastructure improvements.”

BLS will retrofit the existing 1000 watt metal halide high-mast lights in the 56-acre terminal with approximately 150 NOVA HM series LED lights with wireless sensors and controls. After the retrofit is completed, the LED lights will reduce energy consumption by over 50% while streamlining nighttime operations with higher illuminance levels, greater coverage, and less glare for surrounding communities.

Nassau Container Port will also utilize the Bright Light Management System, a centralized lighting management, monitoring, and reporting software that offers scheduling capabilities, asset management information, and energy data analytics and reporting. The BLMS software saves customers up to 30% in additional energy savings through event-based scheduling and lighting optimization.

“We’re thrilled Nassau Container Port has chosen BLS as their terminal lighting solutions partner,” said John Chalmers, Vice President of Marketing for Bright Light Systems. “By implementing our energy-efficient NOVA series LED with integrated wireless controls, we’re helping them save money while achieving their objective of becoming one of the most progressive, sustainable terminals in the Caribbean.”
